Celebrate National Cancer Survivors Day June 3

Thanks to cancer research, new treatments and increased awareness, more people are surviving cancer today than ever, and the number of survivors is on the rise. To celebrate National Cancer Survivors Day, the VCU Massey Cancer Center will host a free event on Sunday, June 3, from 1 to 4 p.m. on the MCV Campus.

“Patients inspire us to defeat cancer every day, whether in the research lab or in our treatment clinics,” said Gordon D. Ginder, M.D., director of the Massey Cancer Center. “We welcome everyone to celebrate the human triumph over this disease.”

Community partners in the celebration include other organizations interested in helping people survive cancer: the Association to Support Children with Cancer (ASK), the American Cancer Society, the Virginia Department of Health, the Sisters Network and the VCU Children’s Medical Center. The celebration is open to all adult and pediatric survivors and their families, regardless of where they were treated.

The event includes a catered barbeque, live music, entertainment for the kids, door prizes and a special cake from Cakes by Graham. Free parking will be provided.
