ACS IRGs recently awarded at Massey:

Two researchers at VCU Massey Cancer Center were recently awarded institutional research grants from the American Cancer Society.

  • Miyazaki Hiroshi, M.D., Ph.D., will study how particular enzymes, ERK6 and ERK2, interact with a protein named Scribble and will analyze how they affect tumor suppression, in search of particular molecule(s) that could be key to the development of tumors resulting from human papilloma virus (HPV). By learning more about these molecules, Hiroshi hopes to facilitate development of new therapeutic agents to prevent tumor development.
  • David Williams Jr., M.D., Ph.D., will study a specific complex of proteins, MBD2-NuRD, known to be involved in the development of breast, colon, prostate and other cancer types. By learning more about the molecular structure and functions of the proteins, along with their interactions particularly with a small peptide, he hopes to develop a novel approach for treating a wide range of cancers.
