We want to answer your questions

The Chest Tumors Center team believes in patient involvement. We encourage you to ask any and all questions you may have. Here are some of the question we hear most frequently:

What is different about Massey’s Chest Tumors Center and why should I go there?
The Chest Tumors Center is the only comprehensive diagnostic and treatment center for lung cancer and other chest tumors in the Richmond area. It is staffed by leading specialists who also conduct research that leads to improved treatments. You can see these specialists in one place at one time, eliminating visits to several doctors’ offices and long delays in decisions about your care. By working together and pooling their expertise, Chest Tumors Center doctors can make the best decisions and give you the most comprehensive advice and information.

Who should come to the Chest Tumors Center?
Patients with a suspected or diagnosed chest tumor may come for evaluation and treatment. Complete consultation and referral services are available for physicians and patients. Many patients come to the Center for a second opinion. Since we are on the leading edge in diagnosis and treatment, you will know that you have explored the best available options wherever you may decide to go for treatment.

How will the Chest Tumors Center help me?
The doctors, nurses and therapists will examine you, evaluate the results of any previous tests you may have had and, if needed, recommend and expedite further diagnostic evaluations using the latest techniques.

How soon will I know the results of these tests?
In many cases, results are available during your visit. If not, a physician or nurse will call you as soon as results are available and explain their meaning to you.

Which specialists will I see?
You may see a thoracic surgeon, chest physician, interventional pulmonologist, medical cancer specialist and/or a radiation cancer specialist — all experts in the management of chest tumors. Other specialists are available as needed.

Will I be able to decide which treatment I will have?
Absolutely. If a treatment plan is necessary, all steps and options will be clearly explained to you. The doctors and nurses at the Center will make sure you have all the information you need and help you make an informed decision.

How can I get more information?
