Finding resources and support
Receiving a diagnosis of cancer may be one of the most disruptive changes to anyone’s life. Where to turn for support? What services are available? How will it affect day-to-day life?
At the VCU Massey Cancer Center, we provide services to help patients and families cope with the daily problems that can happen when facing cancer.
Massey offers a wide variety of support services to patients and their families, including free support groups. Please call our resource librarians at (804) 828-8709 for up-to-date information about support groups and other resources. If you live outside of the Richmond area, please contact your local chapter of the American Cancer Society or local hospitals for resources available in your community.
These groups include, but are not limited to:
- Breast Cancer Support Group – for women with breast cancer.
- Bone Marrow Transplant for Breast Cancer Support Group – for women who have a bone marrow transplant as a treatment for breast cancer.
- Cancer Support Group – a group for people with cancer and their families.
- Inpatient support groups – groups for family members whose loved one is in the hospital.
- Bone Marrow Transplant Support Group – for people with cancer who have bone marrow transplant as part of their treatment.
- Bereavement Support Group – a group for family members who have lost a loved one.
- Brain Tumor Support Group – a group for people with brain tumors and their family members.
