Breast Imaging Center

The Breast Imaging Center is designed to make mammograms fast and easy, which means a minimum of wait and worry for patients. The center specializes in magnetic resonance imaging of the breast, a proven diagnostic procedure for women who are at high risk for breast cancer.

The center is staffed by some of the country’s most renowned radiologists. These physicians are specially trained to perform an MRI using advanced equipment and software that can detect minuscule breast cancers. Using a magnetic field to provide three-dimensional images, breast MRI scans are more sensitive and can provide more information than a mammogram, ultrasound or clinical breast exam.

“Simply stated, our focus in breast imaging is to save lives by pursuing early detection through imaging delivered efficiently, accurately and with compassion,” said Gilda Cardenosa, M.D., director of the center whose expertise has raised today’s level of breast imaging technology. “Our new state-of-the-art MRI equipment enhances our ability to provide complete, comprehensive breast imaging services.”

The Breast Imaging Center offers women superior diagnostic accuracy from a team of world-class physicians. In addition to the newly upgraded MRI unit, the center provides a full range of screening and diagnostic breast imaging services, including mammography and ultrasound.

Most mammogram screening visits last less than an hour. Women who come to the Breast Imaging Center have their own private dressing room with direct access to the mammography room.

If a breast evaluation calls for a biopsy, the procedure can be performed the same day and the results are available within 24 to 48 hours. If diagnosed with cancer, a patient can be seen by a team of specialists at Massey Cancer Center within 48 hours. The Breast Imaging Center works closely with the experts at Massey, which is nationally recognized for its cancer treatment, advanced technology and research.

Ample free parking is available at the Stony Point facility, which is located near the Stony Point Fashion Park Mall. The Breast Imaging Center has a second location at the Nelson Clinic on the MCV Campus in downtown Richmond. Valet parking is available to all patients for $5.
