What families say about Massey's palliative care

At VCU Massey Cancer Center's Thomas Palliative Care Unit we make every effort to help our patients and their families comfortable, providing the highest quality of care and support. Here are just a few of the many responses we have received from patients or their families. We appreciate the feedback.

  • “Thank you for the wonderful care you gave me. I’ve been home for 21 days and getting stronger every day. I know I may not be cured, but I hope to achieve a decent quality of life, go back to work and be at home, not in the hospital. I really appreciated the many little extras each of you did. You are very special people. God bless you.”
  • “I can’t thank you enough for the palliative care unit. Even though death is a sad time, you made it possible for my family to share many precious moments with our father in a warm, caring setting. You met our needs and questions even before they were asked. Every family should be so fortunate to have a loved one in the wonderful setting you provide.”
  • “I feel like we got to know you all so well during our stay on the palliative care unit, so I wanted to let you know that Mother passed away at home. Thanks to your wonderful pain control and care, she was not in pain and she was ready to go. Your kindness, patience and tenderness will always be remembered.”
  • “The year since my husband’s death has been the most difficult time of my life. It seems like family and friends disappeared after the funeral, but your cards made all the difference. I would cry each time I received one, but set it on my desk for weeks and read it over and over again. You will never know how much it meant to me. Thank you.”
