We continue to study rapid actions of steroid hormones that regulate tumor growth and metatasis. Our major focus is on estrogen receptor ERa36, which is membrane associated. We are examining the signaling pathways that mediate its action by understanding why and how it signals in female cells but not in male cells. Our other interest is in the action of vitamin D and its metabolites. Recently, we have seen that there is cross talk in the signaling pathways elicited by 17b estradiol and 24R,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3. To investigate this further, we have worked with Jolene Windle to establish new animal models.
Estrogen, vitamin D, rapid responses to steroid hormones, membrane associated mechanisms, laryngeal cancer
